What a full trip! We pretty much made it to seven of the eight highlights in the Yellowstone guidebook. I tried to include as many photos as possible, and I hope they give you at least a little sense of what Yellowstone is like. The endless, wide-open grasslands that made me feel so free (bison!!!), the lively geysers, the rocks with such unusual colors, so fitting for the name Yellowstone… Oh, and the food was so, so much better than I expected (every single meal was a hit. Especially the brisket and pancakes. Insane), which I think made it even better. All the places we stayed were great too, and above all, Jongbin did such a good job driving. We also travel in similar ways, so I feel like I got to see so many wonderful things and really rest. Thank you🙏

Maybe it’s because the trip was so relaxed and I got to rest properly yesterday? I settled right back into everyday life without feeling worn out from traveling! I stocked up on groceries too, and now I want to make a fresh start with a new mindset. First, 1. Prioritize what I need to do (there is a research direction I want to spend time on, but putting it off a little won’t kill me haha). 2. Organize everything I’ve done so far in a consistent format.

Phew, organizing everything I’ve done so far is harder than I expected, so I think I’ll need to take my time and give it enough attention. In the afternoon, I went out for dinner for the first time as a group of three with An (a CCB classmate I work with on lots of projects) and Caleb, a BioE friend I took a class with before who’s close with An. We happened to go to Sungho for Korean food, and wow, I’d been there once before, but ah, it was so good.. I suddenly remembered when I first came to the U.S. two years ago. Back then, my expectations for Korean food were pretty high, so nothing tasted all that good to me. Have my standards gradually dropped from living abroad..? It felt even tastier than the last time I went. Anyway, I now have about three Korean restaurants in San Francisco that I’d recommend!

I’m now getting serious about writing the OT-2 protocol. There are more parameters to decide on than I expected, and I feel like each one will need to be optimized too ㅠㅠ.. Ugh, if I were only going to do this a few times, I wonder if manual pipetting would have been much better. That’s enough whining… Time to work hard at it. In the evening, I talked to Jaemin for the first time in a while, and wow.. Whenever I hear what my friends are up to every few months, it really, really hits me how fast time flies. Still, it’s all good news, so it makes me feel happy. I should live with gratitude for the choices I’ve made as well.

The weather is usually really nice, but I still hope it’ll be even nicer on weekends. That’s because lifting weights or running in the sun on weekends has become one of my hobbies lately! Luckily, it was supposed to clear up by eleven, so I enjoyed a workout on the gym rooftop, then enjoyed some more sunshine in the park while eating a burrito from a nearby Mexican food truck. I went into work and stayed until late in the evening, but I really feel like next week will be the week when I get things organized in several ways. Oh, and the blog… I do keep some day-to-day notes every week, but I’m starting to fall way behind again. So I want to build a workflow that automatically presents sources I could write from as bullet points. When things get busy, I keep thinking I should do it but put it off, and later I just can’t bring myself to look at it unless I make a huge effort to sit down and properly write. I need to lower that barrier a bitㅠㅠ. I’m also planning to have 2024 and 2025 books printed soon for my own collection, so I need to take care of that too!
